How Viltra provided a wastewater solution for a new multi-million-pound sausage processing facility for a leading UK artisan food producer
Client Overview
Finnebrogue is one of the UK’s leading artisan food producers. A family-owned business based in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, they have made their name producing premium sausages, venison, bacon, ham wagyu beef and plant-based products.
Finnebrogue’s mantra is to make some of the most delicious, nutritious and sustainable food in the world, they are also a major supplier to some of the UK and Ireland’s top supermarkets including M&S, Tesco and many more.
Challenges
Viltra was contacted by the client to deliver a sewage treatment solution for a brand-new multi-million-pound sausage processing facility based in County Down.
Despite a main sewer being available, NI Water imposed strict stipulations on the factory in regards to flow rates, volumes and effluent quality, given the factory had plans to discharge large amounts of effluent per day. Further complications were caused by the fact that the system had to handle a waste stream for a neighbouring factory a few miles away.
Our Solution
Viltra liaised with the consultant engineer, the client and NI Water to provide a fully bespoke and custom-built solution to suit the needs of the client. This included the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a balance and sludge tank, grease traps, pumping station and a HUBER screen and DAF (Dissolved air flotation) system.
Following the successful installation and completion of the project, Viltra also currently provide ongoing servicing, maintenance and desludging of the system to ensure the systems are working to their optimum performance all year round. The systems installed continue to exceed NI Water compliance rates, with both Finnerbrogue and Viltra working in partnership to deliver a project that has sustainability in mind to safeguard our environment.
The project was completed on time and on budget with minimal problems for the main contractor. With a strong focus on health and safety, the project was successfully delivered to the client within the agreed timeframe.
