A homeowner based in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, with plans to sell their property was being held back by a problematic old septic tank - How Viltra found a solution by providing a site survey, consultation with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) and the manufacturing and installation of a sewage treatment plant and associated civil works.

Client Overview

Viltra were contacted by the homeowner based in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, who had plans to sell their property but was being held back by an old septic tank which was problematic. The tank was causing bad smells around the property, the effluent was causing blockages within pipework around the house and the soakaway was not working.

The client had already obtained a new Consent to Discharge from DAERA and came to Viltra with a view to having a sewage treatment plant installed that complied with the DAERA’s 97.5% BOD Removal 'Consent to Discharge' permit that the client had been passed for.

Challenges

The client was having problems with an old septic tank which was creating bad smells around the house. The client also needed help in identifying pipes from the house to the drain that had begun to block with effluent from the old septic tank installed at the property.

Our Solution

The client had already gained a Consent to Discharge permit from DAERA and it was proposed that a Viltra IWOX Premium 97.5% sewage treatment plant would be installed at the property. Viltra took control of the situation and provided a complete civils package for the client to ensure every stage of the process was carried out effectively and without any disruption to the homeowner.

Viltra quickly identified existing drains from the house to the old septic tank and within the soakaway that had been causing blockages. The old septic tank was de-sludged and removed from the property. Viltra installed our IWOX Premium 97.5% sewage treatment plant.

Once installed, the treatment plant was commissioned and set operational. Following the success of the complete civils works and installation of the new sewage treatment plant, a service and maintenance package was setup with the client to ensure an annual visit was carried out to keep the system running to its optimum performance.

The installation of Viltra's IWOX Premium 97.5% sewage treatment plant gave the client peace of mind, enabling the client to move forward with the sale of the property. The project was also carried out within budget and on time, with the client expressing their delight at the result of the civil works and how clean Viltra had left the property after the work had been carried out.
