Client Overview
Ringdufferin Nursing Home is a 64 bedded residential care facility situated on the shores of Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland, an Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI). The nursing home is part of the South Eastern Health and Social Trust and provides a range of services including palliative care, respite care, dementia care, and nursing care.
The site was originally a golf course but the developer had plans to build a nursing home on the site. Viltra was contacted to design a system for the premises.
Challenges
Due to the nursing home being situated beside Strangford Lough – An Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI), - it was imperative that the effluent from the wastewater treatment system would be of extremely high quality. The ground was clay, which resulted in limited percolation within the ground. The influent from the nursing home included medication discharge which needed to be treated before discharge from the sewage and effluent treatment plant.
Our Solution
Viltra designed, manufactured and installed a bespoke system with effective yet simple screening to produce a high-quality effluent, exceeding the 10/15 (BOD/SS) standard. Viltra took control of the Consent to Discharge process, liaising with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) throughout.
Viltra provided Ringdufferin Nursing Home with a complete package which included an initial site survey, consultancy and design, installation and commissioning of the system. As part of the service package, Viltra continually services, maintain and de-sludge the system to ensure the system is operating to optimum performance.
The installation of the wastewater treatment system was a success and was completed on time and within budget. The system continues to operate to a high standard, is regularly sampled and is compliant with DAERA regulations, giving the client peace of mind whilst protecting the local environment on their doorstep.
